Kombai is an AI design engineer that converts Figma and UI designs into production-ready frontend code inside your own codebase and stack.

Overview

Kombai is a domain-specialized AI design and coding agent that turns UI designs into production-ready frontend code. It works two ways: in Design mode it generates standalone interfaces on an infinite canvas with curated inspirations, and in Code mode it writes real code directly inside your codebase using your preferred stack and conventions. Kombai imports Figma files natively, parses complex layouts, fixes messy grouping, and extracts icons and assets without MCP. It understands your repository through Context Graphs, reuses existing components, hooks, and design tokens, and ships as an extension for VS Code, Cursor, Trae, Kiro, and other IDEs. A free tier offers 300 credits per month, with Pro and Team plans for heavier use.

  • Supports 400+ frontend stacks with auto-applied best practices
  • IDE extension for VS Code, Cursor, Trae, Kiro and Open VSX-compatible editors
  • Autonomous terminal commands, browser testing, and plan and debug modes

Comparison

Unlike Figma, which stops at design, Kombai closes the handoff gap by emitting runnable code that fits your stack. Compared to v0, it understands an existing codebase and reuses real components instead of scaffolding from scratch. Against Framer, Kombai focuses on developer-owned output you manage in git rather than a hosted site builder.

Pros
  • +Generates real code inside your existing repo and stack
  • +Native Figma import with layout cleanup
  • +Free 300-credit tier for hobby use
Cons
  • Best value behind paid Pro and Team plans
  • Output quality varies on very complex designs
  • Mostly frontend-focused, not full-stack

Kombai earns its place for frontend teams that live in Figma and git, turning designs into code that respects existing components. It is not a full replacement for a senior engineer on sprawling apps, but it removes most of the mechanical handoff work.
