Overview
Chatbase is a platform for building AI support and engagement agents without writing code. You connect knowledge sources — website crawls, PDFs, Notion pages, help-center articles — and Chatbase trains an agent that answers customer questions in your brand voice, with configurable guardrails and escalation to human agents when it gets stuck.
What separates it from simple chatbot builders is the action layer. Agents can perform AI Actions such as looking up order status in Shopify, creating tickets in Zendesk, processing refunds through Stripe, or booking meetings via Calendly. Deployment targets include an embeddable web widget, WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, Slack, and — on the Standard plan and up — voice calls with telephony support. The platform supports models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, DeepSeek, and others, letting you balance answer quality against credit consumption. Analytics dashboards show deflection rates, popular topics, and conversation quality over time.

Comparison
Compared to Coze, Chatbase is narrower but more polished for the customer-support use case, with billing and telephony built in. Compared to Dify, an open-source LLM app platform you host and wire up yourself, Chatbase is fully managed — faster to ship, less controllable. And versus Lindy, which builds general-purpose AI assistants for internal workflows, Chatbase is optimized for external, customer-facing support at scale.
Getting Started
- Open a fresh conversation and give Chatbase context about what you’re working on — background information dramatically improves response quality.
- Break complex requests into steps rather than dumping everything in one message — iterative prompting yields better results.
- Use the conversation history or memory features to maintain context across a long working session.
Hands-on Verdict
Chatbase is the custom-chatbot tool I use to train a bot on my own docs, site, or files and drop it on a page — upload sources and get a grounded assistant fast. It’s more no-code than Botpress and a lighter setup than Dify. For complex flows I use Botpress.
Who it’s for: small businesses, support teams. Tip: curate the source files before training — Chatbase answers only from what you feed it, so clean, current docs produce a far more reliable bot.
