Dia is an AI-native Chromium browser from The Browser Company that understands the page you are on and reasons across all your open tabs to summarize, compare, and draft.

Overview

Dia is an AI-native browser from The Browser Company, the team behind Arc. Instead of bolting a chatbot onto the side, it weaves a frontier-LLM assistant into the core: the URL bar doubles as a prompt, and the assistant can read the page you are on and reason across every open tab at once. You can ask it to summarize an article, compare products spread across tabs, draft a reply in Gmail, or find something you read last week. A memory system carries context between sessions (opt-in), and a Skills layer lets you save reusable prompt patterns. After Arc moved to maintenance mode, Dia is where the company’s active development now goes.

Key Features

  • Page-aware assistant in the URL bar that summarizes, explains, and drafts without leaving the tab
  • Multi-tab reasoning that compares options and merges sources across open pages
  • Opt-in cross-session memory with privacy controls and zero data-retention options
  • Skills system to save and share reusable prompt workflows
  • Full Chromium engine with Chrome extension compatibility and split-view panes

Comparison

Compared to ChatGPT, Dia keeps the AI inside the page so you stop copy-pasting context between tabs and a separate chat. Compared to Perplexity, Dia is broader (writing, shopping, everyday tasks) rather than citation-focused research, and far cheaper than Perplexity’s Comet browser bundle.

Editor’s Review
4.3/5
Pros
  • +Page-aware AI in every tab removes the copy-paste dance to ChatGPT
  • +Multi-tab reasoning compares products and synthesizes sources automatically
  • +Full Chromium base keeps your existing Chrome extensions working
Cons
  • macOS Apple Silicon only; no Windows or mobile client yet
  • No autonomous agent mode or API for programmatic control
  • Free tier AI message cap is low for heavy daily users

Dia is the most convincing argument yet that the browser itself — not a sidebar chatbot — is the right home for everyday AI. It shines for research and writing but is still a consumer tool, not a developer or enterprise automation platform.
